I hear this complaint from prospective clients way too frequently:

“My webmaster charges me $90 to make a change to my website whether it takes 15 minutes or an hour.”

Every time I speak to an audience or even an individual business owner, I rave about using WordPress instead of a traditional website. What’s sad is that many website designers are charging $4000 to $10,000 for a basic website with limited functionality and most of the sites look like they were designed back in the 20th century. And then you still have to pay to have someone make simple changes to your site…

Add a page? That’s a couple hundred dollars. Put up a video? Bam, $90 bucks down the drain. Needs some copy posted? Another ninety smackers. Here’s a cherry on top for you–your webmaster won’t get around to making the changes for two and a half weeks or more.

Using WordPress as your content management system (CMS), you or someone in your company, already on your payroll, logs in to the admin section and can add pages, photos, video, copy or do any number of changes without writing a bit of code or knowing anything about html.

Let’s get to the quick list:

The 11 Reasons To Use WordPress for your Business Website

Traditional custom-designed websites are still expensive while a custom WordPress site will run under $4000.

You don’t need a webmaster to make changes (at $90/hr)

You can set up a basic WordPress site in about 4 hours if you know how to use a computer–in an hour if you know what FTP is.

You can make changes to your site from your office computer, your laptop while waiting for your flight or your web-enabled cell phone while on the can. Anywhere, anytime functionality.

It takes search engines about 2 to 3 months before they index a traditional site while a WordPress site can get indexed in a couple of days.

You can add functionality to your website by adding in a plug-in. I’ll explain plug-ins in another post, but they are seriously cool.

Using a single plug-in, you can add Google Analytics to get your website data for your entire website. On a traditional website you have to add code to every single page to get tracking data. How much would that cost you from your webmaster?

Your market, audience, site visitors–whatever you want to call them, can easily communicate with you through comments, which is a function that is built in to WordPress. Talk about valuable information; ask a question and get comments back.

Other plug-ins can add ecommerce or membership functionality to your website. This cuts down on a significant amount of webmaster time.

Your WordPress website can look and function like a traditional website with a “blog” page, but a traditional website cannot function or look like a WordPress site.

Best of all, as you’re adding content (easily I should say) that your prospects want to consume, you are instantly marketing without trying and with some well-placed keywords you’re doing search engine optimization, too.

There are many more reasons to build your business website on the WordPress platform, but I hope these 11 will get you excited. If you have had to pay a webmaster $90 for a 5 minute task, I know you’re excited.

Please leave your thoughts, comments or questions and I will be glad to answer them.

How do you guarantee that you get the maximum attention on the congested Web? Even if you’ve got the most amazing product that everyone will love, you won’t be getting rich quick without an Arizona web designer who knows SEO, list building and conversion strategies.

It’s not just about getting a well designed Web site, a good designer brings your message to the visitor so that the benefit is clearly understood and received so that they can make a buying decision.

SEO draws visitors to your site

If your objective is to get new business from the Internet, you must have a web design company that can attract visitors through search engine optimization and then influence them to take a desired action using great copy. If your copywriter is not the same person who’s doing your SEO, put the two of them in touch with each other. You must have targeted keywords in your copy that allow you to be found on search engines.

Your SEO expert will be able to help you select the keywords that many people use to find companies like yours.

The keyword selection process can be involved, with lots of research. Your SEO expert will know where to find the information that will help him or her make the right choice so that your new clients can find you.

Good design enhances SEO

There are tons of cheap and free Web templates available—why pay more for a web design company? Because, a site template cannot take into consideration your business’ unique selling proposition like an expert website design company will.

When your new prospects arrive at your website, it’s your site’s job to point your visitors in the areas that will help them make a buying decision. The site itself will lead the reader through your USP, benefits to doing business with you and address any potential objections.

Finally, it will lead the visitor to the call to action and a decision about whether or not they’ll do business with you. This is very important—to you and your visitor. You want to tell anyone who visits that you want their business, because you’ve presented all of the information for them to decide on whether they want to do business with you.

Even if you have the rare product that everyone needs, you will not get everyone’s business. But, if your website was designed by an Arizona web designer who knows design, SEO and copywriting, you’ll be providing the information that will attract the perfect customers for your product and business.

Don’t cheap out by doing it yourself… it will cost you in the long-run. You’ll have less traffic, fewer sales and lower revenue.
